태국어로 <평신도를 깨운다>책이 나온다니,
태국에도 제자훈련의 선한 바람이 일어나기를 바랍니다.
제자가 되는 것은
오랜 시간동안 이루어진다라는 말씀이
참 와 닿습니다.

사랑하는 선교 동역자에게,
이곳은 4개월 건기가 끝나고 비가 내리기 시작하네요. 오래 기다렸던 단비가 매마른 자연을 초록색으로 탈바꿈시키고 있네요. 하나님 사역의 원리도 비슷합니다. 오랜 인내의 눈물을 흘리며, 온 진액으로 투자하면 하나님의 계절에 그 열매를
거둘 것을 믿습니다. 정말이지, 사람을 영적으로세우는 것은 단 기간에 쉽게 이루어지지 않네요.

● 9 개월 이상 세례 훈련 ●
예수를 영접한 사람이 세례를 받기 전에 어떤 훈련 과정을 거쳐야 하는지? 기간은 얼마인지?는 선교학적 이슈입니다. 저희들의 선교철학은 한국, 미국과 달리 태국 불교배경의 새신자는 세례를 빨리 받게 하는 것을 피하고 적어도 9개월- 1년 정도 세례훈련을 받은 후에 세례를 받는 것이 건전한 상황화라 생각합니다.

왜냐하면, 제자를 키우는 것은 속성과정이 아니라 시간이 걸립니다. 세례는 제자 세우는 과정의 한 단계 입니다. ‘은혜펠로쉽교회’에서 3명 젊은 자매들이 9개월 이상 세례훈련 후에 세례를 받았습니다. 주의 제자로 살아가겠다는 그들의 귀한 헌신이 아름답네요. 세례잔치를 주님께 감사를 드립니다. 저희들의 제자인 ‘아누퐁/코이’ 목사 부부가 사역을 충실히 감당하는 모습에 저희들 가슴이 벅찹니다.

● “평신도를 깨운다” 태국어 출판 ●
저희들은 대학시절부터 제자훈련을 받아왔으며 제자훈련 사역에 미친 제자들입니다. 저희들의 파송 교회도 제자훈련하는 교회이고 저희들의 선교 핵심 초점도 지역교회중심 제자훈련 입니다. 지난 13년 반 태국 땅에서 선교하면서 지역교회 중심 제자훈련 타이밍을 오랜 기도로 기다려 왔습니다.

이제 그 시간이 왔는 것 같네요. 특별히 지난 1 년은 제자훈련에 관한 강의들을 했으며, 현재는 지역교회 제자훈련의 지침서인 “평신도를 깨운다” (옥한흠목사) 를 태국어로 출판 중입니다. 부족한 저희들이 기도 가운데 5 월초에 4000 권이 첫 출판 됩니다. 태국 모든 교역자들 손에 꼭 읽혀지는 책자가 되기를 기도합니다.

태국교계의 가장 큰 모임인 전도 컨그레스 (Congress on Evangelism)가 5 월 10-13 일까지 방콕에서 진행되는데 이 책이 4000 명 교회 지도자들에게 소개 될것 입니다.
태국교계 비전 2020 의 초점인 ‘제자세우는 교회’비전에 쓰임 받도록 기도부탁 드립니다. 이 책을 한 권 읽는다고 태국이 완전히 바뀌는 것은 아니지만, 태국교회의 체질이 제자훈련하는 교회 토양으로 바뀔 것을 기대해 봅니다.

지난 반세기 동안 세계 선교지 곳곳에 수출된 복음은 한국문화와 미국 문화에 포장된 ‘개종자적인 복음’ (conversionistic gospel) 이였습니다. 태국도 예외가 아닙니다. 성경적인 복음은 제자화적인 복음 (disciplistic gospel)입니다. 개종자를 만드는 복음이
아니라 주님께 인생을 건 제자들을 만드는 복음에 온 진액을 퍼붓는 교회지도자들을 키우기를 꿈꿉니다.

부족한 저희들에게 귀한 제자훈련사역의 동역자가 되어 주심을 감사합니다.

Dear Our Mission Partner,
After 4 months dry season, the rain finally began to fall from the sky in Chiang Mai. This long waited rain is transforming the anhydrous God‟s nature into a green beauty. Likewise, God‟s principle of ministering requiresa long-waiting. We firmly believe that patient endurance with tears and pouring all energy will bring joyful fruits in God‟s season. Really, building up people spiritually does
not happen in overnight, but over-seasons.

● Over 9 Months Baptism Training ●
After a new birth in Christ, what kind of trainings does one need for baptism? How long? This is a crucial missiological issue. Our missiological conviction is that
it is best to avoid quick baptism to Thai new believers with Buddhism background and a better missional contextualization is for every Thai new believer to go through 9 months to 1 year baptism training before baptism. Why? Building up people does not happen through a quick process. Baptism is a crucial process of discipleship, not just an event.
3 new believers of Grace Fellowship received baptism after over 9 month baptism training. How glorious it is to see their dedication to live as disciples of Jesus! We thank God for this wonderful Baptism Ceremony. We rejoice
seeing our dear disciples, Pastor Anuphong and his wife, Koi, faithfully discipling their own people.

● Publishing a Thai book
on Discipleship in local Church ●
Since we were in college, we have been a part of disciplemaking ministry. Since then, we‟ve been absolutely sold out to local church discipleship. Our sending church is a well-known disciple-making church. The main focus of our missiology is local church based discipleship. Forover 13 years, we have been discerning for God‟s suitable timing for local church based discipleship in Thailand. We sense the timing is at the doorstep. During last year, we have
increasingly taught and led on discipleship training and currently we are on the process of translating and publishing a book “Called to awake Laity” (by Dr. John Oak) into Thai, one of the best manuals on local church discipleship. 4,000 copies will be printed on early May. Please pray with us that this book will be in the hands of every Thai church leader to read it thoroughly.
Thai Protestant Committee will organize „Congress on Evangelism 7.5‟ from May 10-13 in Bangkok, the biggest gathering of Thai Christian leaders. We will introduce and distribute this book to over 4,000 church leaders. At the gathering, Vision 2020 with emphasis on local church discipleship will be introduced. This one book alone cannot change Thai churches dramatically, but we pray that this
book can bring some transformation of the paradigm of Thai leaders on how to do church effectively with strong emphasis on local church discipleship. A new wave for discipleship!
During last half-century, Westernized gospel has been exported around the world. We call it “Conversionistic Gospel.” Thailand is no exception from the presence of this kind of gospel. However, a biblical Gospel portrays “Disciplistic Gospel.” Biblical Gospel does not focus on just making a convert. We will continually pour out our energy to build church leaders who can effectively engage in solid discipleship in the local church.

3. Thank God that Hannah got an acceptance letter from a college. She is
finishing up her last semester here in Thailand and moves to USA this
summer. Please pray for adjustment and all the needs (new friends,
church, health and financial needs for her study in college)
